Sarah Jane Liney is the Treasurer and a Trustee of Hedgehog Helpline, Sarah is married and they have two grown up children.
Sarah combines her professional expertise as a qualified accountant with a genuine passion for wildlife conservation. She plays a vital role in ensuring the charity remains financially strong, well-governed and able to continue delivering lifesaving care to hedgehogs across Wales and beyond.
While Sarah oversees the charity’s financial management, her contribution extends far beyond the trustee boardroom. She is actively involved in the day-to-day operation of Hedgehog Helpline, supporting admissions, rehabilitation, fundraising, volunteer activities, public engagement and the many challenges that come with running one of the UK’s busiest hedgehog rescue centres. Whether helping to care for injured hedgehogs, assisting with educational events or supporting the charity behind the scenes, Sarah is always willing to step in wherever she is needed.
Her practical approach, attention to detail and leadership make her an invaluable member of the organisation. Sarah is passionate about ensuring every donation is used wisely, allowing the charity to invest in the highest standards of animal welfare, rehabilitation and conservation.
Committed to the long-term future of Hedgehog Helpline, Sarah believes that conservation is built on strong partnerships, education and community involvement. She works closely with fellow trustees, volunteers, veterinary professionals and supporters to help safeguard the future of Britain’s native hedgehogs, ensuring the charity continues to grow and make a lasting difference for wildlife.
Sarah is also a Trustee for her local community charity as well working professional for a homeless charity.

What book, film, or person has had the greatest impact on your life?
Anna Frank I read this book as a young primary school child and I believe this started my journey in developing a greater empathy and compassion for others, appreciating freedoms and what we take for granted. Knowing that despite what life hands you, courage and kindness will always see you through.
How would your closest friends describe you?
Loyal, Kind, Supportive, Funny, Generous a marshmallow but no pushover.
What inspired you to get involved with hedgehog helpline?
As a child, we always had visiting hedgehogs in our garden, and we hadn’t seen one in our current home until one autumn evening, we found a small juvenile in the middle of our lawn. The rest is history.

Who had the biggest influence on you growing up?
My parents, growing up in a warm, loving and supportive home, my parents encouraged me to be true to myself and to embrace my own individuality. Each of them instilled important values that have shaped the person I am today—kindness, integrity, compassion, hard work and respect for others. Their unwavering love, guidance and belief in me gave me the confidence to pursue my own path while always remembering the importance of helping others and making a positive difference.
